INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES
- This debate is an opportunity to practice critical thinking, public speaking, and persuasion skills. Have fun, be respectful, and always strive to improve. Do not hurt the personal, religious, or cultural sentiments of other participants.
- Participants will present their opinions/arguments on the motion. The first participant from the group in favour of the motion will present their argument, followed by the first participant of the opposing group, and then the second participant of each group will present their arguments accordingly, and so on.
- There will be 2 rounds in this debate competition (Opinion/argument round and Rebuttal round). There is a strict time limit for each participant’s presentation; every team will be given 3+1-minute time (after 3 min. one warning bell will be given and then extra 1 min. will be provided to finish the speech) to each participant in the first round and 2 minutes in the Rebuttal round.
- After the first-round presentation, there will be a rebuttal round where each participant has the opportunity to respond and counter the arguments of the contestant from the opposing team.
- A neutral moderator will be there who will introduce the topic, manage time, and ensure that the debate is conducted in a fair and orderly manner.
- The topic for the debate will be provided at the time of registration participants will choose to speak either (1) in favour of the motion or (2) against the motion.
- Arguments presented in the debate should be supported by credible evidence and sources.
- Debaters should be respectful and professional, refraining from personal attacks or insults.
- Using a dictionary/smart device/mobile during the debate is not permitted.
- A panel of judges will evaluate the arguments presented by participants and declare winners for both groups (in favour of the motion or against the motion) based on the strength of their arguments and their ability to effectively communicate their point of view.
